It’s a process.

We’re blessed with a couple of days of weather in the 50’s and the snow has melted. Thank God.

Winnie is now almost a week into chemo. The first few days created a lot of panting which the doc thought might be some mild GI upset from the anti-inflammatory. We added Zofran into the mix and that seems to be doing the trick.

Winnie has a new dog walker that she loves. Her name is Cara. She gives Winnie her chemo midday and then comes back twice in the afternoon to encourage her to pee. But, I think it’s all too much for Winnie. She’s tired. And I think her back leg is much weaker now. She goes to physical therapy on Wednesday and I can’t wait. I need to help trying to figure out who to help Winnie get back on top.

I’m realizing that this is really all part of a very long process. I don’t regret our decisions to date – I couldn’t imagine leaving that cancer in Winnie. And I hope the metronomic chemo doesn’t hurt Winnie’s way of life. I do wish she could be off all the meds and wonder sometimes if all these pills are really going to help. But we can only do the best we can with the information we have, right? And I’ll do anything for Winnie. Anything at all — clearly because she’s sleeping on my bed a lot more these days. Delusions of grandeur might be our next issue. 🙂

  1. Hey pretty girl, looks like your journey is moving right along. I know there will be a day when you don’t have to think about the pills and all that icky stuff, it WILL happen.

We are looking forward to hearing about your therapy work so please keep us posted OK? I’d love to hear what types of exercises they help you do.

Yeah, it can feel like a long process at times, like it’s all we ever think about. All you gotta do to shake that feeling is look at Winnie and her laid-back attitude and say to yourself “Now THAT is how to be more dog!” Ain’t no better way to live.

  2. Yes, we do the best we can do with the information we have and we all need to remind ourselves of that everyday. Sometimes the “information ” may be a great solution and sometimes a “less great” solution…but we try and our furbabies know that! And I do believe we make these decisions (“forced choices”) with a “knowing” that we ARE doing what they would want us to do.

Oh, before I forget, I’m not able to see her one month ampuversary video…says vieeing not allowed for mobile (tablet) devices. Anyway you can fix that on your end? I would LOVE to see that sweet girl!

AND, a belated HAPPY ONE MONTH AMPUVERSARY WINNIE!!

You look gorgeous sleeping on “your” bed! Apparently your momma has “delusions of grandeur”….. she thinks it’s HER bed!! Silly human!

One thing with the metronomics, you can cut down on the dose a little or even switch to differents kinds if you cntinue to see problems. Or certainly even stop. I’ve forgotten your protocal and do’t recall if Rimadyl is included or not, but sometimes that can cause tummy issues.

Just want to add ne more thing as far as her PT. I do kmow of ne dog…Atlas…who stopped doing the PT during chemo as it was all just too tiring for him. I think Atlas waited maybe into the third month at least and then got better results. This is just thrown out as a two cents worth!

Atlas did get good results with acupucture AND massage. Massage helps so many of the nes who seem to take a little longer to “move around”

Just love seeing Winnie’s picture…..she just exudes sweet and gentle! And YOU are a wonderful partner for her! She couldn’t ask for anyone better…..perfect fit!

Sending you both lots of hugs and love and continued healing!

  3. One more thng and then I’ll quit blabbing…..maybe Cara could give her a little “warm up” massage…..you may have already seen the links to videos here for them.

And yes, unless those walks are brief with lots of rest stops inbetween, it cold be too much strain on her for now. So maybe she could do just two really brief walks…which may be what she’s doing anyway…just another penny’s worth!
