Finding our balance

Winnie hasn’t had the best couple of days. It’s her tummy. Yesterday morning, diarrhea. And she vomited around 6 pm. And this morning, more diarrhea. She’s in pretty good spirits though! I’m trying to sort out what’s what. She on Novox (I switched her back to Novox from Remadyl last night), Pepcid, Zofran twice a day. Prilosec once a day. And, of course, the chemo once a day. I know everyone says that the side affects are from the NSAIDs but I don’t think she feels that great a couple of hours after chemo. Is it me?

  1. It definitely could be the chemo. My guy was on both cytoxan and palladia and the palladia specifically gave him tummy issues. Talk to the doc about it..There might be more he can give him. I’d also give mine plain low fat Greek yogurt with his chemo pill.. (make sure it’s not sugar free..) it helped soothe his tummy. A long with an anti diarrhea med.. (he was on Immodium as well as a prescribed pill when the Immodium wasn’t enough) hope he feels better soon!

  2. Ooooh. Definitely let your vet know what’s going on. I have no idea what could be causing this but I sure hope she feels better soon.

Just a thought; she’s on metronomics right? in the old days dogs would be on metronomics once every other day. Many vets are moving it to daily for an extra whallop on the cancer cells, but this could be too much for her? We don’t see too many dogs with vomiting as a side effect from oral chemo. What is her diet like? Any changes there?

Please give her a smooch from us and keep us posted. We’re sending lots of love.

  3. WINNIE!! What’s going on girl??

Hmmm…it seems that someone here just recently switched off the Rimadyl because they figured out that was causing a tummy upset.

I’ve forgotten how long she’s been on metr. now…but is this the first time she’s had these issues? It seems it could be related to the chemo.

You might want to post this in “Ask A Vet” section to where others will chime in with more feedback.

And you know, this is crazy, but it even seems like so eone here had an issue with Pepcid actually causing some tummy troubles!

Like you’ve already done, maybe eliminate a pill one at a time and see if that makes a difference. I like Jerry’s idea of the every other day routine too. Every dog is different and once a day could just be to strong a dose.

Let us know what the vest says, okay?

Glad her spirits are good!! That just seems more and more like it’s “just” a tummy upset due to some outside influence.

Look forward and update soon…AND WINNKE PICS!! Love that girl!
